Small Business Finds 75% Of Business Comes From Social Media

Posted by: on Jun 17, 2010 | 4 Comments
In 2008, the owners of Emerson Salon decided that the Internet would be an important focus for their new business plan. Little did they know that two years later, 75% of their business would be sourced from Facebook, Twitter and their blog.

The way people communicate has dramatically changed forever over the last few years. More and more, social media (such as Facebook, Twitter, FlickR, YouTube, etc.) has become a primary avenue for gathering and connecting with people. With more “eyeballs” moving to social media, it is inevitable that business has moved there as well.

Social media and networking is word-of-mouth advertising for the 21st century… and that’s the best advertising there is. It allows you to reach the right brand targets and then have them create content that is self-proliferating

Developing a Social Media Program

Emerson Salon has been building their social media program for two years. I recommend taking the time to create a social media strategy and framework from day one. This allows you to have the tools in place to build on the strategy over time without starting over again. Ask yourself these questions:

  • Who is my target?
  • What do I want to accomplish?
  • How do I want my relationship to change with my target?
  • What social media platforms am I going to use (you don’t need them all)?
Before you know it, your social media program will be generating measurable results and transform the way you interact with your customers.
