How To Achieve Social Media Ratings Like CNN

Posted by: on May 10, 2012 | No Comments

In February 2012, CNN received nearly 13% of all social media mentions on cable.

CNN needs all the help they can get, and this top ranking is great news for the network. While this report analyzed the mentions on social networks and did not measure other metrics, we can still learn successful strategies from CNN’s social media campaign.

How To Achieve Social Media Ratings Like CNN

Here are the four easiest ways to achieve social media ratings like CNN:

  1. Host Events. We know not everyone can broadcast Whitney Houston’s funeral or crucial political debates, but any bit of involvement in public events will improve your online influence.
  2. Use iReports. CNN brilliantly uses iReports to not only consume news differently, but to engage its audience in a creative way. Use your audience. Get to know them and allow them to share helpful tips with you.
  3. Create Hashtags. It is reported that on-air hashtags increase Twitter interactions by a 10x. Why not create your own and make your event live for those who can’t attend? Announce hashtags for specific events and promotions.
  4. Promote Yourself on Twitter. CNN promotes Twitter heavily on the air. Follow this practice and tell your audience where to find you on Twitter!
